Ralph Oswick co-ordinated the day, courtesy of the Natural Theatre Company, and the theme was Victory; celebrating both the 60th anniversary of the end of WWII (linked to the British Legion national programme of celebrations) and the (albeit temporary) victory over the traffic.
Emphasis was on family fun, with a stage, carousel, stalls and of course, the café society for which the street is gaining a growing reputation. Plus the Widcombe Victory Waltz, written by Chris Dickins, where everyone danced in their best 1940's ball gowns.
The road was closed from 8am until 10pm. |
