It may seem odd that businesses in the building, construction and trade sectors will be able to rely on mobile communications company Grapevine for a piece of sturdy and reliable equipment imperative for their business. |
However, this is not plant or machinery, but a mobile phone designed specifically with those industries in mind, as the JCB Toughphone is available on general release.
Created to reflect the traditional brand values of JCB by the manufacturer Sonim and distributed by Data Select, owned by Dragons' Den entrepreneur Peter Jones, the handset can withstand the harshest punishment. Peter Jones highlighted this at the official launch of the Toughphone when its durability was put to the test. The Toughphone survived being run over by a JCB Groundhog, a fall of 10 feet, a high velocity water jet and time in a rotating mixer full of sand. After each test a call was made and the Toughphone was found to be in full working order.

Grapevine's Business Development Manager, Paul Lappage, comments: "For organisations operating in demanding conditions, the JCB Toughphone is an ideal handset. Users have a sturdy, 'no-nonsense' device and along with its durability, it still possesses modern features like Bluetooth that have become a key requirement for business use."
The wish to keep equipment costs to a minimum is another reason for the JCB Toughphone's design. This is backed by a three-year warranty. As Grapevine's Paul Lappage explains: "Costs can soon escalate if a company's fleet of mobiles frequently get damaged and need to be replaced. Local organisations adopting the JCB Toughphone from Grapevine have reassurance through its tough design and excellent warranty, along with the after-sales service and support for their overall account from a dedicated specialist."
